About

The Spire School is a NEASC accredited and Connecticut State Approved Special Education Program. We are an independent, therapeutic day school for intellectually capable students in Grades 8–12 who are struggling academically and emotionally. Our students have experienced anxiety and avoidance, struggled with executive functioning challenges or depression, and benefit from a smaller, supportive learning environment with robust academics and a strong health and wellness component.

By integrating an individualized educational program with a health and wellness curriculum, The Spire School helps students cultivate the skills they need to overcome their academic, social, and emotional difficulties. At Spire, we empower our students to reach new levels of achievement, and we actively support their growth into confident and constructive members of their communities.

From The Head of School

I have been fortunate to witness, time and again, the impressive achievements that result from a collaboration among inquisitive and capable students, caring and involved families, and passionate and experienced educators and clinicians. Spire students are intellectually curious, active learners who come to embrace the value of commitment and the idea of “successful failures,” or isolated setbacks that lead to long-term gains.

With guidance and encouragement from Spire’s teachers and life coaches, our students practice self-advocacy, develop resilience, and expand their comfort zones. In our relationship-based model, Spire teachers share their love of lifelong learning and help students build confidence in the classroom. Our life coach team of clinicians strives to support and challenge students in their development of executive function skills and social-emotional wellness. Together we work with students to help them explore their talents and interests in a safe, secure environment.

Students leave Spire with the knowledge and tools to successfully tackle challenges inside and outside of the classroom, as well as a renewed sense of hope about the future.
