Welcome to Spire Snapshots, your peek into the exciting activities and events happening around The Spire School campus! From hands-on projects to festive celebrations, our students and staff continue to inspire us with their creativity, collaboration, and curiosity.

As the school year comes to a close at Spire, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible journey our students and staff have shared over the past few months. From inspiring senior presentations to joyful graduation ceremonies, the season has been filled with celebration, growth, and meaningful accomplishments. Here's a look back at some of the memorable moments that wrapped up our year!

Interaction Through Action

Life Coach, Amanda Conti & Intern, Mx. Kass created "The Spire Amazing Race" where students and their families participated in a series of competitions as they "raced" throughout the school.

Bake Sale

The Student Council organized a bake sale full of sweet treats to help raise money for prom.

Student Art

After learning about the Aboriginal people of Australia, students created paintings inspired by traditional Aboriginal art and cultural themes. In a separate project, they explored the technique of "gelli printing," using various textures and objects to produce vibrant, layered prints.

Spring Music Performance

The Spire Spring concert was a huge success! It was a great opportunity to show off the incredible musical talent of our students and all of the hard work and practicing that they have put in throughout the year. Performances were both vocal and instrumental. All musical levels were involved from beginner to advanced.

Our performers shined, the audience was so supportive, and lifetime memories were made.

Yearbook

Every year one of our Spire students has the opportunity to design the cover for the yearbook. This year, Robin Hopp's design was selected. Beautiful job, Robin!

Walk-a-thon

Our campus was full of energy and excitement during this year’s Walk-a-Thon, where students tracked their steps throughout the school day and hunted for hidden sneaker tokens that unlocked fun rewards. Each day, the student with the highest step count won an Amazon gift card!

Thanks to our students' enthusiasm and the generous pledges from their family and friends, the Walk-a-Thon raised over $1,200 to help fund this year's junior and senior prom!

From fitness and friendly competition to fundraising success, this event proved that every step counts. Thank you to our Spire community who stepped up to the challenge!

High School Students making Biopolymers

Students gained a deeper understanding of biopolymers and checked out a swelling compound, which is commonly used in diapers and under arm deodorants! They also discussed sustainable polymers, including petroleum plastics vs. biopolymers.

Pathfinder Series

Spire concluded the Pathways Series this year with two unique careers represented - a marketing manager from Stanford University School of Medicine. She supports physician wellbeing via WellMD and WellPhD and another representative from the medical field, Charlie -------, who is researching different types of blood cancers as a PhD student at Yale University Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. They both gave great presentations about the different topics they originally studied in college and how they landed in their current positions and passions. Next year, we'll continue the Pathways Series and we invite parents to volunteer themselves or their contacts to join us for some career exploration. Field Trips

HMart

Our Japanese, Chinese & Culinary students took a trip to H-Mart, the largest Asian supermarket chain in America. Spire students completed a scavenger hunt in order to find a list of ingredients for a traditional dish-making culinary experience.

Martitime Aquarium

Mrs. Gaumer's Zoology class had the opportunity to visit the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT, exploring animals they have been learning about up close.

Parent & Staff Activities

Garden Project

In November a small group of Spire parents broke ground for the first ever Spire garden, preparing the area from scratch, installing fencing, a raised bed filled with fresh soil and planting a few perennial herbs.  Most have popped up and now we await the growth of more herbs, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, cantaloupe, carrots, lemon cucumbers and some flowers!  We also just moved another large raised bed into the garden that was kindly donated by a former Spire family.  It will be the home of most of our vegetables when we need to separate the seedlings.  It's a great place to get your hands in the dirt and get back to nature!

Staff Appreciation Week

Once again the amazing Spire parents spoiled our staff with thoughtful and fun treats each day during Staff Appreciation week! From words of gratitude and detailed designs in chalk that welcomed staff on Monday morning to Dunkin gift cards, ice cream sundaes from the Ice Cream Emergency truck, to a never ending supply of yummy snacks available every day/all day and then finishing up the week with a fun and tasty lunch from Lunch Lady Gerri's food truck on Friday! We all felt the love, thank you, parents! You are the best!

Thank you to everyone who continues to make Spire a vibrant, supportive, and inspiring place to learn and grow. Stay tuned for more updates in the next Spire Snapshot!
